Who will benefit from this social justice workshop?
Whether you are a new or a seasoned educator, this training will give you the foundations of dialogue facilitation and introduce you to tested activities to get radical, loving, and transformative conversations started in your classroom. Activities and strategies offered are ideal for students ages 12-18.
What is dialogue facilitation?
Empowering young people to be in conversation with one another requires a different set of skills— one that involves facilitation over teaching.
A facilitator must be a guide for authentic dialogue: they must know how to ask good questions, incite vulnerable sharing, redirect and respond to opinions, and transform conflicts into opportunities for deeper understanding.
What to Expect During the Workshop
We know learning dialogue facilitation can be hard, scary even. But have no fear! We’ve got you covered. In this social justice facilitation training you will gain clear, tangible, and powerful strategies to take your facilitation to the next level.
Each session will provide instructions on facilitation skills followed by hands-on, adaptable activities that you can implement in your own professional practice. You will engage with these activities as both learners and facilitators. Each session will be supported with additional resources to provide participants with deeper knowledge on the subjects.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to debrief and discuss with other like-minded educators. There will also be Question-and-Answer time with the workshop leaders who will share their own expertise and advice with you.
As part of the workshop you’ll receive a professionally developed and tested Rethinking Normal Facilitator Guide. This guide provides detailed lesson plans to implement further dialogue-based activities in the classroom. To see all our guides visit the curriculum store.
